| Why TFL exists |
 |
The History of TFL - a company born of frustration!
In order to tell the tale of TFL we need to introduce another company, Bete
UK. Bete are a distributor of industrial spray nozzles. Bete didn't want
to get into the warehousing business, their focus was on the technical expertise
needed to advise on the 20,000+ products in the their catalogue. As a small
business they decided to outsource their warehousing, pick and pack and
shipping.
Initially a large main player in the distribution and logistics business
was used. This didn't work out. Bete experienced poor service and, worse
than that, were given the distinct impression that their business didn't
matter. The sad truth of the matter was that their business didn't matter
to such a large company.
Next, a smaller local fulfilment house was used, but again this didn't work
out. The problem here was that the local company continued to make errors
but seemed incapable of correcting them. They said they cared about Bete's
business, and to be fair they probably did, but errors in pick and packing
were costing Bete money and reputation.
These experiences led the owners of Bete to set up a new business, TFL.
Firstly to meet their own need for a fulfilment partner but also as a standalone
business in its own right. The business logic was simple. Bete is not a
business with unique needs if they were having problems finding a fulfilment
house to meet their needs then other businesses must be feeling the same
pain. There must be a viable business model to fill this gap in the market.
TFL is exactly that business model.
But before we explain why we get it right it is important to understand
why others get it wrong.
